How Two Murals Changed the Way I See My Art

One of my favorite things about being an artist is that sometimes my work notices patterns before I do.

A couple of months ago, I painted a series of flower field paintings for my exhibition, Ripple.

I simply felt inspired to paint them, followed my intuition, and every single one found a home.

I remember wanting to paint something that reminded us of abundance, much like water or endless skies. Then I thought, Why not a yellow flower field?

I knew it was something new to explore, and the act of painting it felt incredibly meditative. It took me longer to finish than my usual paintings, but I loved every minute of the process. The first one became Ripple Day 64.

About a week later, I felt an even stronger urge to paint another one. That same morning, I stumbled upon a guided meditation about the energy of lavender fields representing abundance. It made me smile because I had always associated lavender fields with that feeling, even before hearing anyone put it into words.

By the end of my 100-day project, I had painted a handful of flower fields. They became the stars of the exhibition. I celebrated with the collectors... and honestly, I moved on.

Or at least I thought I did.

This month, I was invited to paint not one, but two completely different murals. And when I say different, I mean everything was different: the clients, the spaces, the personalities, the locations, even the color palettes.

The only thing they had in common? You may had guessed it... flowers.

The first mural was a matte black wall with glossy black flowers that quietly reveal themselves as the light moves across the room. Elegant, subtle, and unlike anything I've painted before.

The second couldn't have been more different: a joyful bedroom filled with colorful hibiscus flowers and tropical energy. The kind of room that makes you smile the moment you walk in.

It's funny because when people look at the finished murals, they usually think the hardest part was painting the flowers. I've got to tell you... It wasn't. The biggest challenge was translating my painting style into an entirely new format.

A canvas is one conversation, a wall is another. Once the scale changes, your body moves differently. The room itself becomes part of the artwork.

I prepared as much as I could, and then, just like every painting I've ever loved, I had to let intuition take over.

Looking back now, I can't help but notice the pattern. First came the flower fields, then came the murals, then came my camera roll, somehow filling up with photos of flowers during my self-created artist residency.

Some people call it a coincidence, but I don't really believe in coincidences. I think creativity has a funny way of leaving little breadcrumbs before we're ready to recognize where they're leading us.

I've learned that my career rarely changes because I wake up one morning and decide it's time for a new chapter. More often, the next chapter repeats itself until I finally pay attention. So naturally, I've been wondering... Could flowers be trying to tell me something?

Maybe this is the beginning of a new collection, or not. I'm not in a rush to define it.

For now, I'm simply staying curious and following where the work wants to go. Because some of the best things I've ever created were never part of a five-year plan. They started as a whisper, and I simply said yes.
