Hidden words and paint drips: crafting a mural for wellness

Hey, hello there, friend!

I'm excited to share the story behind my latest mural. This project pushed my creativity and challenged me in new ways. I was invited to transform the walls of an office in Orange County, turning a typical waiting room into a vibrant, inspiring space that would resonate with everyone who walks through the door.

The Vision: Merging Art with Purpose

This project was particularly meaningful because it was for Villages of California. This organization offers youth, young adults, and their families prevention and mental health services. The goal was to create a calming, uplifting environment that would support the therapeutic work within these walls. I chose seven colors from the brand's palette to reflect the diversity and depth of the healing process. But I wanted to do more than just beautify the space—I aimed to infuse it with deeper meaning.

Hidden Words: Unseen but Powerful

One of the most unique aspects of this project was the incorporation of hidden words behind the paint drips. These words, carefully selected to carry positive energy, are subtly woven into the mural. Although they aren't visible at first glance, they're there, quietly influencing the room's atmosphere. This approach mirrors the therapy process itself—much of the important work happens beneath the surface.

The Process: From Mountains to Magic

The mural began with the painting of mountains, symbolizing the clients' climbing journey and overcoming challenges. This intentional imagery represents the path to healing that each person takes in their own way.

Working with the paint-dripping technique required careful preparation, particularly in masking off areas where we didn't want the paint to spread.

This method demands precision, but it also allows for beautiful, organic results that add depth and texture to the piece.

The final step was where everything came together. I used a gallon of white paint to blend the colors, brightening the space and giving the mural a cohesive, luminous finish. This final touch was essential in creating a serene and invigorating room, perfect for a therapy environment.

The Outcome: A Space for Healing and Growth

The finished mural is more than just a visual piece—it's a part of the room's energy, designed to inspire and comfort those who spend time in the space. Whether clients wait for their sessions or reflect afterward, the mural serves as a reminder of the strength and progress that come with the therapeutic journey.
