Why Some People Collect Art… and Others Never Will

Hey, hello there, friend!

There are two types of people: the ones who feel something when they see art…and the ones who just keep walking. And it has nothing to do with money. I’ve seen people spend on things that mean absolutely nothing to them, without thinking twice. But when it comes to a painting that actually moves them…they pause, hesitate, or overthink it, if not all of it.

After many years selling my art in art fairs, exhibitions, or even directly from my studio, I can say: I get it! It's because the moment you feel that pull… it’s not just about the piece anymore. It becomes personal, it's like saying “this is mine” , AND also saying, this is who I am, this is what I connect with, this is what I want to live with.

And that level of honesty? It’s uncomfortable for a lot of people, so instead, they wait, they try to make it make sense. But hear me out: ART was never meant to be a logical decision.

It’s a recognition.

Now let me share something no one really talks about: there’s a cost to waiting. Yes, sometimes the piece sells. You’ve probably seen that happen.

But more than that… Nothing changes.

Your space stays the same, the energy stays the same, and you stay in the version of your life that almost said yes.

Living with art is different: It’s not just something you hang on a wall, instead, sort of becomes part of your day without you even noticing. The light hits it differently in the morning. You pass by it a hundred times. And somehow, it keeps giving something back.

It can be a reminder, a feeling of awe, a shift in perspective, or simply, you notice something new this time.

.

The people who collect art understand this.

They don’t wait until it’s perfectly justified. They move with confidence, not impulsive. Just… certain (beyond logic).

So if there’s a piece you keep coming back to, one you’ve opened more than once, one that lingers a little longer than the rest, that, my friend, it's not random, it's recognition.

And the question isn’t really“should I buy this?” It’s: are you going to trust that feeling, or talk yourself out of it again?
