If Ripple Had a Zodiac Sign…

Hey, hello there, friend,
One of my favorite things about having Ripple on view has been standing quietly in the gallery and listening to the conversations that happen when people think I'm not paying attention.
There is something so fascinating about watching someone connect with a painting. Not because they're analyzing technique, composition, or color theory, but because they're trying to describe a feeling.
Over the past couple of weeks, I've heard things like, "This one feels adventurous," or "This one is definitely mysterious." Someone pointed to a painting and said, "This one has main character energy," which made me laugh because I immediately knew exactly what they meant.
I couldn't disagree ;)
After spending 100 consecutive days creating these paintings, I've lived with them for a very long time. I've watched them emerge from blank canvases, evolve through layers of paint, and slowly reveal their own personalities. Some are bold and impossible to ignore. Some are soft and introspective. Some feel playful and curious. Others feel like they know a secret they're not quite ready to share.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that we don't just connect with art because we like the colors.
We connect with it because we recognize something of ourselves in it.
Maybe that's why certain paintings stop us in our tracks while others don't. Maybe that's why two people can walk into the same room and fall in love with completely different pieces. We're not just looking at the artwork. We're looking at ourselves reflected back through it.
Which led me down a very entertaining rabbit hole. What if the paintings in Ripple had zodiac signs?
Now, before any professional astrologers come after me, this was done entirely for FUN. No charts were analyzed. No planets were consulted. Just intuition, color, energy, and a healthy amount of artistic imagination.
So I selected twelve available paintings from the collection and matched each one to a zodiac sign. Some were obvious. Some surprised me.
The dreamy paintings naturally wanted to be Pisces. The bold ones practically volunteered to be Leo. A few of them argued their case so convincingly that I didn't have much choice in the matter.
And the truth is, whether you believe in astrology or not, most of us can recognize ourselves in certain qualities.
Adventure. Creativity. Sensitivity. Confidence. Freedom. Curiosity. Wonder...
We all carry different combinations of those traits, and sometimes a painting seems to embody them in a way that's difficult to explain but immediately easy to feel.
That's one of the things I've loved most about creating Ripple.
The collection started as a commitment to show up every day and paint. What I didn't expect was that each painting would develop its own personality along the way.

So now I'm curious.
Did I get your sign right?
More importantly, if you walked into the exhibition today, which painting would choose you?
Because after watching hundreds of people experience Ripple, I've become convinced of one thing:
The painting that's meant for you usually lets you know. You just have to trust it.
🌊 Ripple remains on view through July 12 at Easy Reader in Hermosa Beach.
