Why Commissioning Art Is a Relationship, Not a Transaction

Hey, hello there, friend,

Over the years, I’ve learned that commissioning a painting isn’t really about filling an empty wall. It’s about trust. It’s about inviting someone into your story and asking them to translate it into color.

One of my collectors once told me that choosing art for his home wasn’t just about beauty, it was about the story it represents. He had lived in Hermosa Beach for over 40 years, and he wanted a double rainbow with the pier in the background. The rainbows symbolized good luck and prosperity for him, and his guests, and the pier represented the community he has called home for decades. We spoke multiple times before he felt ready, and I never rushed that decision. That part matters to me. Sometimes what people need most isn’t a painting yet, it’s clarity.

Another collector shared that my paintings completely invigorated his living and dining rooms and filled them with life and color. He mentioned that I listen, that I allow feedback, and that the process brought him peace of mind. That phrase stayed with me — peace of mind. Commissioning art requires vulnerability. You’re sharing your space, your intention, your taste, and sometimes even your memories. That deserves care.

Someone else talked about the sentimental value of having a custom piece created just for them. Another said that working together felt easy and fun, and that knowing the artwork was made with love and care by a local artist made it even more meaningful.

When I read these words back, (you can take a look yourself HERE) I notice something: no one talks about matching furniture. They talk about feeling. They talk about story. They talk about energy. They talk about trust.

That’s when I realized that commissions are relationships. They require conversation, patience, and alignment. And because of that, I don’t open them all the time.

For 2026, I’m opening only 3–5 private painting commissions. This will be the only commission window this year. To secure your place on my calendar, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required and will be applied toward your final investment. Commissions begin at $1,200–$1,500 depending on the size and vision.

For collectors who want a deeper experience, I’m also offering a Premium Commission Journey that includes a private vision session, studio updates, and a signed letter from me documenting the meaning behind your piece. Because art isn’t just something you hang on a wall. It becomes part of your home’s story, and legacy.

If my work already feels like a YES in your body, if you value meaning over mass production, and if you’re ready to co-create something personal, applications open today, February 12, 2026. I’m excited to see who I get to create with this year.
