The Party Is Over. The Love Letter Isn’t.

Hey, hello there, friend!

Last week, I was packing paintings and wondering what it would feel like to finally see them all together on gallery walls. This week, I’m looking at photos from the opening of Love Letters to Hermosa, and I’m still taking it in.

So many people showed up. Longtime friends, familiar faces from different chapters of my life, art collectors who have followed my work for years, and new collectors discovering it for the first time. To see them all in one space, surrounded by paintings that hold so much of my story, was a blessing.

And my mom was there, so proud. Having her beside me through this experience meant more than I can put into a blog post, although you know I’m going to try.

I wanted her to understand the life I built here, the community that became part of it, and the work that grew out of these almost twenty years. During the opening, I felt like I could finally show her.

From the very beginning of installation, there was so much care involved in bringing this exhibition to life. After two days of arranging, hanging, and figuring out the details, I looked around in awe. These paintings, which I had spent so much time stacking, moving, and trying to see properly in my studio, finally had room to breathe. Then you walked in and gave me another reason to be emotional.

Apparently, the “bring tissues” warning applied to the artist, too.

Looking through these beautiful photos by Jessie, I’m grateful all over again. Thank you to everyone who came, helped, shared the invitation, brought a friend, or found a painting they wanted to take home.

Watching my paintings find loving homes has been one of the most meaningful parts of this experience. Especially now, as I prepare to leave my home and studio, knowing that pieces of my story will become part of someone else’s everyday life means so much. To my longtime collectors and the new collectors joining this journey: thank you.

And we need to talk about the music. DJ Marty Mitochondria brought such an incredible energy to the evening, and now you can listen to the set yourself. Press play while you look through the photos. Consider this your invitation to stay a little longer.

There’s also the short film, created with WeBook Production and filmmaker Neil Fernandez, which brings another dimension to the story behind Love Letters to Hermosa. I’m so happy to share it with you here in a few dasy.

There’s still time to find your painting.

Seven works are available through the online auction, with bidding closing Saturday, October 31, at 11:59 p.m. If a piece has stayed on your mind, this is the moment to revisit it. And if you couldn’t attend the opening, you can explore the auction from wherever you are.

Then, on Sunday, November 1, from 1 ~ 3 p.m., join me at RESIN Gallery for the artist talk and closing reception. We’ll have one more afternoon together before the exhibition comes down, a chance to see the work, hear some of the stories behind it, ask questions, and find the painting that feels like yours.

I move the following day, so when I say this is a farewell, I mean it quite literally. My timing has always had a flair for the dramatic.

Come spend this last afternoon with me. I’d love to see you, whether we hugged on opening night or you’re walking into the exhibition for the first time.
