To Mars (Reimagined) captures a playful and imaginative moment where curiosity meets the cosmos. A black cat gazes toward a glowing celestial body rising above the moon, as if contemplating a journey beyond the sky.
The painting invites the viewer to imagine new worlds and possibilities, a reminder that wonder and exploration begin with curiosity.
Part of Second Light — March 2026 Edition, this piece was revisited in the studio and transformed with the addition of a black cat, bringing new character and symbolism to the composition.
STUDIO NOTES
Cats have been a recurring presence in my paintings for over two decades. I started painting them around 2003, and they’ve remained one of my favorite subjects ever since.
While revisiting this piece, I decided to paint the cat black, inspired by the many black cat paintings that have found homes with collectors.
They always seem to resonate deeply with people and became a popular demand around here ;)
There’s something mysterious and poetic about a black cat looking toward the horizon. In this piece, the cat becomes an explorer, gazing toward the moon or perhaps even toward Mars, imagining what lies beyond.
