Resilience reflects the quiet strength found in nature — a solitary rock formation rising from the ocean beneath the steady glow of the moon. Surrounded by flowing waves and shifting light, the structure remains grounded, shaped by time and movement.
The painting explores the balance between endurance and transformation, reminding us that strength often emerges through cycles of change.
Part of Second Light — March 2026 Edition, a series of paintings revisited and completed during Drica Lobo’s studio practice.
STUDIO NOTES
The rocks in this painting became a place to experiment with texture and material.
I used pieces of dried paint collected from my studio palette — fragments that usually end up in my recycle pile — and incorporated them directly into the surface of the painting. Building them into the rock formation allowed me to create a natural impasto texture that adds depth and dimension to the work.
There’s something poetic about reusing these layers of past paintings to create something new. It felt like a perfect reflection of the title itself: resilience, transformation, and the beauty of continuing to evolve.
